I was in line at Sportsman's Warehouse with a big batch of flies, when the man in front of me (who was buying a fishing license and a couple of spin rods with his wife), commented on my purchase.  "Oh, buying some earrings?"  I was in shock so I didn't answer...

But, I probably should have said, "Sure am!  There's no other reason for a woman like me to buy flies, obviously."

Wished you had thought of that reply to that guy before you left the store. Love your videos, keep them coming.

Laura, you are what this sport needs! It's evident from your videos that you KNOW what you're doing. I've fished many of the same waters you are showing in your videos... and you're by far the better fisher-person. Perhaps if you run into the same sort of individual while buying flies you might remark, "Yes I fly fish, because I know what I'm doing." Great videos and blog. Welcome to NM Trout. We're glad to have you as a member.

Hi Mike,

Your comment is very appreciated! I have found the fly fishing community to be very welcoming and kind. The Conclave was a great event, and I'm glad to have joined NM Trout!

I'd love to get your ideas on small rivers to fish that are "kid friendly" (e.g. have decent banks to fish from, water's not too fast, minimal hiking...). My family fished Fenton Lake this week and had the best time. It had been almost 5 years since picking up a fly rod, and now 2 kids later, we're itching to get out again (finally)! Last time we tried fishing was on the Vallecitos with my son in an Ergo carrier!
My husband taught me how to fly fish over 15 years ago when we lived in Jackson, WY. I started off reading magazines by the river and watching him fish. Then, I tried it one evening on the Gros Ventre River and was hooked! We've had many fishing adventures since then, all over the west, from the Powder River to the Selway to lakes in Glacier NP, and now we have 2 young ones in tow (3 & 5). We'd love to try new rivers/lakes in NM that would be accessible for all of us with great camping.
P.S., Love watching your videos and seeing new fisheries! My husband is a teacher as well so we're trying to soak up every bit of summer!
