Sorry for the delayed post, everyone!  I spent the last week moving and wrapping up some final events for my school year.   I haven't been doing too much fishing with this craziness.

Quick report--I did get take a quick trip out to Tingley Beach in Albuquerque while I was in the area.  It's definitely getting a bit too warm for the trout.  The trout were not biting in the catch and release pond at all... except I did manage to get a bass!  Picture below.

Cimarron is a bit high, but it'll fish well if you get your nymph down far enough.  Lake Maloya will be fishing well.  I've heard good reports from Fenton, and in past years I've had very good luck in late May/early June there before it heats up and the algae takes over.  Keep an eye on flows for rivers... I think run-off will be going for a good long while still but when it subsides the fish will be biting.

Anyway, here I am sitting here up in Northern NM, and it's snowing again...

Hello fellow teacher & Fly Fisher! I just found your site and YouTube videos this morning and found it helpful for places to fish this summer. My wife and I are planning a trip (probably nothing SOUTH of Santa Fe) for mid-late July 2019. We’ll be camping and B&B’ing, but I plan on doing some catch-and-release fly fishing. Not looking for raging water, but little rivers and beautiful streams (as found on your videos of the East Jemez and the Pecos and such). We’re both about 5 years from retiring out of teaching in San Diego. Lots of ocean here, but I prefer fishing along mountain streams and the like. Really enjoyed Rocky Mountain National Park, but we both loooove Santa Fe and that part of New Mexico and visit on and off (just spent New Years in Santa Fe). Looking forward to learning more about great fishing spots (and current conditions) in areas you are fishing. All my best, Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks for checking out my videos and site! That will be a great time to come out here. Run-off is high this year, so things will be good in July.

A few other recommendations... Definitely try to get out to the San Antonio on the Valles Caldera. Wading isn't allowed anymore--so disregard my videos! : ) If you are ok with hiking a little bit in, the Rio Santa Barbara is awesome. I'm still learning this water (just moved up further north outside of Taos so it's a lot closer now), but the Rio Costilla would also be a great choice for a smaller stream. Tight lines!

Thanks Laura! I also discovered Cimarron Canyon State Park from your videos. That looks like a beautiful place! We’re going to try to head there too. Yes, we drove up for the day to Taos I think the day after New Year’s, it was pretty cold but still enjoyed walking around the town! See you in the streams!
